    Smoking during pregnancy

Smoking during pregnancy appears to raise the risk of miscarriage or premature labor. But the primary danger is hindered fetal growth. Nicotine depresses the appetite at a time when a woman should be gaining weight, and smoking reduces the ability of the lungs to absorb oxygen. The fetus, deprived of sufficient nourishment and oxygen, may not grow as fast or as much as it should.

    Re: Smoking during pregnancy

Yes smoking is bad, however you'll find most clinicians will refrain from asking women to quit during pregnancy, due to the stress the mother then goes through. Yep, i'm an ex smoker, and yes the withdrawals might only last 2 weeks, it's the psychological pressure that is the hardest issues to over come, ruminating thoughts, habitual cycles involved with smoking.

Step 1, quit before you decide to be impregnated

Step 2, already pregnant, if you can quit fantastic, if you know you can't, then don't

Step 3, pregnant and smoking, don't read this thread

    Re: Smoking during pregnancy

My mum did, my ex did with my first son, my wife did with our daughter, my wife wanted to quit and tried (stress!), it was me who told her to stay smoking. I think in this day and age, if it's only smoking women are doing when pregnant, then horrah, .....as the meth heads, and the alcoholics around doing it when preggy is truly sickening.

    Re: Smoking during pregnancy

Yer 13 would be a bit full on eh,

I had a sister who came and said hello then left also.

I personally don't have a issue with smoking during pregnancy, I'm a social worker also, and the things I have seen with pregnant women, smoking is nothing. FAS, Drug withdrawall in babies, disabilities due to mothers refusal to stop lifestyle habits, hard drugs etc

The only reason I stopped smoking as I figured out I was paying a weekly sub to die miserably, maybe, perhaps. It was a mind set shift. I tried all the arm patches, chewing gum previously, none of that works unless your mind actually has a shift, plus the one thing I did that I believe is the key to sucess... I never told a soul.

That helped with the ruminating thoughts, as it's rather common for people to go "oh it must be hard, you must feel like one etc etc" of course it's hard, and I feel like one morons haha... so when nobody knows, nobody asks or cares... when they offer you one, all I used to say, was, just had one before.

Oh and a change of habits, keeping myself busy after dinner, and no coffee. And I looovvvvvveeeee coffee, think I made up for that one, I drink it extra strong now haha
